Why clinical AI should work alongside the EHR, not replace it

Portrait of Ganesh Datta

By Ganesh R Datta. I build healthcare AI end to end: clinical decision support, clinic intake, and the marketing and operations around them.

Clinics already have a records system, and replacing it is a long, risky project. AyurDoc covers the consult and the reasoning and lets clinics keep their EHR, which makes it something a practitioner can start using this week.

"Replace your EHR" is a sentence that ends most clinic software conversations. It means migration, retraining, downtime and risk.

The decision

AyurDoc was built to work alongside the clinic's existing records system. It handles the part existing systems handle poorly for Ayurveda, the consult and the reasoning, and leaves records where they already are.

What that buys

The trade-off

Working alongside means some duplication at the edges, and integrations become important as clinics grow. I think that is the right trade: adoption first, deeper integration once the tool has earned its place.

Advice for healthcare founders

Find the job the incumbent system does worst for your users and do that job well. Let the rest stay where it is until you have a reason to move it.
