Building one assessment across modern medicine, Ayurveda and diagnostics
Total Health Centers combines modern medicine, Ayurveda and AI-assisted diagnostics. The hard part of THC CDSS was designing one assessment that brings those views together without forcing one discipline's vocabulary onto the others.
Integrative clinics practise several kinds of medicine on the same patient. Software usually supports one of them well and the rest badly.
The design problem
Modern diagnostics produce lab values and measurements. Ayurveda describes constitution and imbalance. Lifestyle data sits somewhere in between. A useful assessment needs all three without flattening them into one vocabulary.
My approach
- Keep each discipline's findings in its own terms.
- Bring them together at the level of the plan, where the 12-week program combines them anyway.
- Let the physician see where the disciplines agree and where they don't.
Why not translate everything
Translating Ayurvedic concepts into Western terms, or the reverse, loses meaning. The clinic's physicians are trained to hold both views. The software should support that, not simplify it away.
Takeaway
When a clinic practises more than one kind of medicine, design the assessment around the plan they deliver, not around any single discipline's chart.
