Structuring an integrative assessment around root causes
Integrative medicine looks for root causes across systems rather than treating symptoms one at a time. THC CDSS structures the assessment so related findings are seen together and likely root causes surface for the physician to judge.
A patient with fatigue, poor sleep and rising blood pressure can be treated as three problems or investigated as one. Integrative practices like Total Health Centers work the second way.
The challenge
Holding many findings across cardiology, cognition, lifestyle and diagnostics in your head at once is hard, visit after visit. Important connections get missed when the information is scattered.
How the assessment is structured
THC CDSS gathers findings into one structured assessment and helps the physician see which ones point in the same direction. Likely root causes are surfaced as hypotheses for the physician to confirm or reject.
What I avoided
- Ranking root causes with false precision.
- Hiding the findings behind a single score.
- Presenting a hypothesis as a diagnosis.
The general lesson
Good decision support reduces the effort of seeing the whole picture. It does not replace the judgement of reading it.
